St Goar to Amsterdam

After a long day on the coach, it was good to arrive in St Goar. Our afternoon was spent visiting a Beer Stein shop, before taking an optional cruise down the Rhine river, and seeing the Lorelei Rock. After the cruise, we made our way back to St Goar on the coach, and were treated to some wine tasting after dinner.

We were back on the road the next day to our last stop of the tour, Amsterdam. We arrived in the afternoon and were taken to a display of cheese and clog making. After enjoying the variety of cheese, we moved on to Edam, where we were taken through the streets of the town, which included a relaxing ride on Grandma Bikes.

After dinner, it was into Amsterdam for a walking tour of the city and the red light district. A few hours later we were taken back to the hotel for a few quiet drinks before heading to bed.

The next day saw us back in Amsterdam. First stop was a tour of a diamond store, and a display of a few small, but expensive diamonds. While very nice, I had already made plans to meet up with my friend Yoyo who was on my last Contiki Tour through New Zealand. After walking through the rain, we met up along Damrak, the main street of Amsterdam, and spent the next few hours catching up while just walking around the city and along the picturesque canals.

Before we knew it, it was time to say goodbye to Yoyo, and back on the coach to the hotel. We all got ready for our last dinner on the tour. After a nice meal, were were served coffee. Just started to drink what I thought was the best cup of coffee I had tasted in 3 weeks, and Lou announced it was time to leave. Damn. We made our way back into the city for our cruise through the canals of Amsterdam. While it was very scenic out the windows of the boat, we were too busy having a good time and taking plenty of photos with everybody while we had the chance. Back to the hotel to continue the party, another group photo, and sadly the party had to end, as we had our earliest departure of the entire trip the next morning.

We eventually made it to Calais after sitting in a traffic jam in Belgium for over an hour. The water on the channel looked a little choppy.. this was going to be interesting. Once on the ferry we made our way to the food hall as we were all very hungry. My eyes were bigger then my stomach, and I filled up my tray until there was no more room. That would be a mistake as once we left the calm water of Calais and entered the channel, the ride got very rough. The rocking of the ferry made it difficult to eat and finish my meal, and it was nearly impossible to walk in a straight line.

Everyone was relieved to make it to Dover and be back on dry land. After passing through customs, we were back on the coach and spent the last hours signing everybodys group photo. We arrived in London at 7pm and sadly that was the end of our tour. Said goodbye to a few people who could not make it to the pub later that night, and I checked in to the Hotel for my last two nights in London.

Walked back to the pub at the Royal National with Jocelyn & Michelle after we had dinner, and spent the next two hours saying our goodbyes.

After we all left, I walked back to the Imperial with Jocelyn & Michelle and said farewell. It was all over.

To all the fantastic people out there from the tour, it was the best 21 days of my life, and it was good to share the experiences with you all. I hope you had just as much fun as I did. Keep in touch, I hope our paths cross again some time soon.

Matt.
