Well, the tour is over, but there was still plenty to see and do in London. I had arranged to meet up with my cousin Liz and her husband Will at Wimbledon station late in the afternoon with the plan to have dinner at their house. Meriki mentioned the night before that she was planning to visit Wimbledon as well to go to the Tennis. I invited her to come with me to Wimbldeon, and to join the three of us for dinner. We decided to meet up at the Tower of London at 12pm, go shopping in Oxford St and then travel out to Wimbledon. I met up with Meriki, and we made our way to Oxford Street for a few hours of shopping. Before we knew it, it was time to get on a train to Wimbledon. We met up with Liz and Will at the station, and made our way to the tennis. We bought a ground pass which allowed us access to most of the courts at the tournament. We found out that Anna Kournikova was playing on a court, so we made our way over and squeezed into the stands. We were lucky as the Australian Todd Woodbridge was playing with Martina Navratalova, while Anna's partner was Jonas Bjorkman. After the traditional rain delay, the game resumed with Anna & Jonas winning the match. It looked like more rain was on the way, so we left the tournament and went back to Liz & Will's for a great dinner, and then Meriki and I made our way back to Russell Square. We said farewell, and made our way back to our respective hotels. Thursday, my last day in London. I made my way back to Westminster station, as today was the day I had booked a ticket on the London Eye. To my luck there was no queue, and I got straight into a capsule for the 30 minute trip. The views from the Eye are wonderful, and it is such a slow trip, you hardly feel like you are moving. I made my way back to Harrods for another meal in the food hall, and some last minute shopping. A stop off at Charing Cross for a final check of the email, and then back to Russell Square to visit the British Museum. Unfortunately, by this stage I was all Museumed out, and left after about 30 minutes. Made the short walk back to the Imperial, collected my bags, checked out, and made one final trip on the tube to Paddington Station. Boarded the Heathrow Express for a very quick trip to the airport where I checked in my bags, and spent the next 2 hours on the viewing deck of the airport. No sooner had the time passed, I went back to Terminal 4, cleared the security checkpoint, and bought a snack for dinner, water and some magazines to read on the flight. It did not take long for the flight to start boarding. Time for a telephone call to home to tell them I was at the airport, and I was ready to come home. Managed to get some sleep on the flight to Hong Kong, but not enough. Had another stop-over in Hong Kong where I found an email terminal to discover emails from new friends from the United States saying they were already home. Back on the 747 for the 8 hour flight to Sydney. After a few movies, I decided to check of the progress of our flight on map to discover we were over Australia, but still had another 3 hours before we would be in Sydney. 6am, and we had landed. Back home by 9am, and handed out the presents. By 12pm I was getting sleepy, and declared at 4pm I was going to bed for a short nap. Slept right through to 8:30 the next morning, and realised... the trip was finally over. |
